West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang has revealed what he shouted at teammate Felipe Anderson in the build up to Lucas Perez’s goal against Leicester City on Saturday.

The Equatorial Guinea international came off the bench to make a big impact in the 2-2 draw with the Foxes, as his curling shot cannoned off the post and was converted by Perez on the rebound.

Now he has revealed what he said to Anderson moments prior to the goal: “I started shouting ‘Felipe, please find me [with] the ball, give it to me!’,” he said, as per Football London.

“I’ve seen the space, I expected more but anyway, it’s maybe an assist because it’s the post so I’ll take it,” he finished.

OPINION

Obiang may not officially have been given an assist for Perez’s goal, but there is no doubt that he was absolutely crucial to West Ham briefly restoring their lead against Leicester. Obiang was in plenty of space on the edge of the box and clearly made sure that Anderson gave him the ball. From there he unleashed a peach of a strike that was extremely close to going in. Luckily for him, though, Perez was on hand to turn the ball in on the rebound. Neither Obiang nor Perez have pulled up any trees so far this season, but both men did their Hammers futures no harm whatsoever with their performances off the bench at the London Stadium. Whether it will be enough to spare them the axe this summer remains to be seen, but if they can continue to make a big impact in the final few games of the season then they may well end up saving their West Ham skins.
