West Ham captain Mark Noble has sung the praises of Michail Antonio after his performance against Leicester on Saturday.

Antonio scored the opener in the Hammers 2-2 draw with a header assisted by the captain himself and Noble has lifted the lid on how impressed he has been by his teammate.

He told the Newham Herald: “It was a case of hanging it up for him and he is that good in the air, I knew that he is going to win it 90 per cent of the time and it worked out well. He played well and you sort of know what you are going to get from him.

“He works hard and he is strong. It was his best game for a long time and you could see that there is no end-of-season blues, because you could see what it meant to everyone.”

Antonio had not scored since February for the Hammers and his effort against Leicester was his sixth of the season.

OPINION

Michail Antonio has had to step up this season after disappointing injuries to players such as Andriy Yarmolenko. Forward options have been disappointing this season at the London Stadium with uncertainty surrounding Marko Arnautovic, as-well as the argument of who to play between Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez. After two successful seasons in front of goal after signing for West Ham, Antonio has disappointed in front of goal, only scoring three goals last season. The argument of where his strongest position is has continued through the seasons with Antonio playing at right-back, in midfield and also up-front. His strength is in the air and his great athleticism, mix these together and Antonio has proved before that he can bring results when given a run of starts up-front in his self admitted favourite position. With other strikers being looked at in the summer, the best Michail Antonio can hope for is a run elsewhere in the team.
