Nasri unlikely to win West Ham extension

|

West Ham United midfielder Samir Nasri is unlikely to win a contract extension with the club, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the 31-year-old’s hopes of a long term Hammers stay are fading with every passing game as he continues to struggle with injuries.

The Frenchman is a big favourite of manager Manuel Pellegrini, but it is thought that his failure to stay on the pitch has likely cost him his West Ham career, with his current deal set to expire this summer.

Nasri hasn’t appeared since featuring as a substitute against Huddersfield Town mid way through March and, according to Claret & Hugh, he will miss Saturday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur as well.

OPINION

Nasri’s West Ham career has been a curious tale. He was bought in by Pellegrini with a lot of excitement, particularly after a promising early showing against Birmingham City, but it’s all been a bit downhill since then. He’s only on a deal until the end of the season, with this period from January onwards being an opportunity for him to earn an extension. However, his inability to stay fit has likely scuppered those hopes. He looked excellent when he came on against Huddersfield in his last appearance, but all the momentum he generated in that game has disappeared due to his failure to stay fit. It’s a shame, because he’s shown that he still has the talent to make an impact at the top level. However, Pellegrini cannot in all confidence pay him £80,000-per-week, or whatever it may be, when he doesn’t know that he’ll be able to stay fit. So even though the manager likes him, Nasri will likely end up leaving the London Stadium anyway this summer.
