Mingi to be released this summer

|

West Ham United will release under-18s midfielder Jay Mingi this summer and he has already been across London for trials at Charlton, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football site reports that the Hammers have informed the promising 18-year-old that he will have to leave in a few months time, as the club are not keen on extending his stay in East London.

The report also states that Mingi has been proving his worth at London rivals Charlton with their under-23 side ahead of a prospective summer switch.

He has made 26 appearances for the under-18 side this season, but it looks like he will now be available on a free transfer this summer now that the club’s top brass have decided against a new contract for him.

OPINION

This news will be a shame for Mingi personally, as he was no doubt hoping that he would progress through the ranks and make his first team debut next season. However, that is now not the case, as the board obviously think that he is not worthy of a future in East London. That being said, not every young player that shows promise is guaranteed success at a club like West Ham, so it is not too much of a surprise that the Irons have told Mingi that he is to be released. Nevertheless, if he is lined up to be available on a free transfer, then as the report states, a number of Football League clubs will no doubt be keen to snap him up. Charlton could also be his next destination if he impresses on his trial, so it is not all doom and gloom for Mingi right now.
