West Ham United have not agreed personal terms with Roma striker Edin Dzeko, according to Claret and Hugh.

The reliable site – a trustworthy source of news on the Hammers – have claimed that the 33-year-old has not agreed personal terms with the club, and that he is not on boss Manuel Pellegrini’s list of prime targets ahead of this summer.

The Daily Express previously reported that the Irons were willing to sign the former Manchester City forward on a £165,000-a-week deal that would last two years, but C&H state that the club are looking at other targets, with Celta Vigo attacker Maxi Gomez still in their sights.

OPINION

It is not a surprise in the slightest that the news of Dzeko agreeing personal terms with the club are false. To offer him that sum of money per week would be a massive mistake on their part – not only would it make him one of West Ham’s highest earners, there is no guarantee that he would be able to justify that with impressive displays at his age. He has no doubt slowed down a lot since he last graced the Premier League with his presence, so it was a surprise in the first place that the Irons were said to be interested in signing him. The club need to go in for a striker who is younger and has a lot of potential, not a top-flight has-been who has only scored 12 goals this season. The supporters will no doubt be relieved to know that C&H have poured cold water over this story, as they no doubt wanted to steer clear of Dzeko in the first place.
