West Ham United left back Aaron Cresswell will miss this Saturday’s game against Leicester City, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that the 29-year-old, who earns £50,000-a-week [Spotrac], was absent from last weekend’s defeat to Manchester United through injury and that that setback will keep him out again at the London Stadium.

The Englishman has made 22 appearances this season as he’s reestablished himself as the Hammers’ first choice left, although Arthur Masuaku’s masterclass against United may have affected that.

OPINION

It must be frustrating for Cresswell to have to miss this game as well after what Masuaku produced against United. The DR Congo international was superb at Old Trafford, opening the Cresswell v Masuaku can of worms that we all thought had been securely shut earlier in the season. The debate has reopened, however, and Cresswell will have to wait one more week, at least, for his right to reply. From a footballing point of view, Masuaku likely would have started anyway so this probably isn’t going to affect manager Manuel Pellegrini’s game plan much. To be fair to Masuaku, he was given a chance last week and he took it in emphatic fashion. Now he has to do what he’s never done before in his Hammers tenure: prove that he’s a consistent left back. If he can do that then it will be a big problem for Cresswell, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens on Saturday.
