Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers issued a cheeky five word response when quizzed on Lucas Perez’s disallowed goal for West Ham United on Saturday.

The 30-year-old had the ball in the back of the net on 89 minutes, having scored minutes earlier, but was judged to have been offside despite appearing to be level with Foxes left back Ben Chilwell.

Harvey Barnes would go on to score a stoppage time equaliser to give Rodgers’s team a share of the spoils at the London Stadium, and the former Celtic boss realised he’d got away with one after the game.

“Thankfully VAR isn’t out yet,” he said, as per Football London.

OPINION

Rodgers is absolutely right here, his team were extremely fortunate that VAR isn’t around yet in the Premier League, because Perez’s strike would certainly have stood if it was. Perez looked to be onside, even though it was a close call. Linesmen are looking at these things in real time so it’s difficult to get it right every time. You can’t blame them all that much for this one, even though the West Ham fans will undoubtedly be frustrated with the decision. There were a few questionable calls from the referee that went against the Hammers, but this will obviously be the main one that will have angered the club’s supporters. It was a huge shame for Manuel Pellegrini’s side because they dominated the game on Saturday. They weren’t amazing, but they were certainly better than the woeful Foxes side they were up against. Still, all you can do is take this one on the chin and look forward to when VAR is introduced to the Premier League.
