Pellegrini likely to have £60m to spend this summer

|

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini will eventually have a hefty total of around £60million to spend this summer, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the Chilean will receive an initial war chest of £30million, but that several moves could see that sum doubled.

Their report states that the club will save around £5million once free agent striker Andy Carroll is off their wage bill, while bagging another £6million from the likely sale of midfielder Edimilson Fernandes to loan club Fiorentina.

The sales of fringe men Pedro Obiang and Lucas Perez are thought to be worth a combined £9million, while Javier Hernandez could depart for between £7-£10million. All of the above could bring the club in another £27-30million, bringing Pellegrini’s actual budget to around £60million.

OPINION

This sounds a lot more like it for West Ham fans. When Football London reported earlier this month that only around £30million would be made available to Pellegrini this summer, there was widespread condemnation from the club’s supporters. However, with all of the likely sales it does appear that his final outlay will be closer to the £60million mark than £30million. Carroll is almost certain to depart, while it does seem as if Fernandes is going to be on his way out as well after impressing in Florence. Then there’s Obiang and Perez who have merely been squad players this season and who should, if the right offer comes in, be allowed to leave the club. You’ve also got Hernandez who would bring in a decent amount but who, like Carroll, would take a sizeable chunk off the club’s wage bill as well. So £60million seems likely to be what the Chilean ends up with, and that’s a pretty fair amount after what he splashed out last summer.
