Pellegrini confirms Nasri injury v Chelsea

|

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that midfielder Samir Nasri suffered an injury against Chelsea on Monday.

The Frenchman was all set to come onto the pitch during the Hammers’ 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, but was waylaid during his warm up.

Pellegrini revealed what happened: “Samir Nasri was going to start in the second half, but in the warm up he felt a muscle injury in his calf and wasn’t confident to play,” he said at his post match press conference, as per Football London.

“We’ll see tomorrow,” he finished.

OPINION

West Ham’s propensity for picking up injuries this season has apparently now got to the stage that players are getting injured during their warm ups. They don’t even need to play during a game or a training session to pick up a knock, it seems. In all seriousness this was a real shame for the Hammers on Monday. Pellegrini’s team had gained a bit of a foothold in the game at the start of the second half, but they still needed more cutting edge in the final third. Nasri would have been the perfect player to provide that missing spark, but unfortunately he was out of action. This seems to be the way of it for the former Manchester City man so far. He cannot seem to truly make an impression on this West Ham team because he continues to pick up little knocks and niggles. He was tremendous off the bench against Huddersfield Town last month, but hasn’t been able to build on that momentum due to injury. All we can do now is hope that this latest setback isn’t a serious one.
