West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang has probably started his last game of the season after his horror show against Everton on Saturday, according to Football London’s Sam Inkersole.

The reliable journalist suggested that the 27-year-old likely won’t be picked from the start again by Manuel Pellegrini this term after he produced a woeful display in the 2-0 defeat to the Toffees.

The only way the Equatorial Guinea international might get another shot is if the Hammers suffer an injury in central midfield, where they’re not overly-blessed with options.

OPINION

What a miserable campaign this has been for Obiang. He’s simply not been able to do anything of note and his departure from the club this summer is starting to look inevitable. He was quickly usurped in the midfield pecking order early on by the outstanding Declan Rice, and he’s done little since then to overtake the England international or Mark Noble in the middle of the park. Football London are right, it would be a major surprise to see Obiang start again this season. He produced a dreadful display in a horrendous team performance against Marco Silva’s side and he was undoubtedly one of the most egregious offenders on the day. He’s just not been good enough this term and when that happens you’re not going to get many starting opportunities. With summer signing Jack Wilshere pushing for a return, the prospect of the former Sampdoria man getting much game time decreases even further.
