Andy Carroll’s West Ham career is over, according to the Daily Mail.

A report from the outlet suggests that the £90,000-a-week [Spotrac] hitman has gone under the knife to try and finally solve the longstanding ankle problem that has blighted his career, meaning that he is likely to miss the rest of the season.

It is also understood, however, that Carroll will not be offered a new deal at the London Stadium, and as such he will be forced to look for a new club in at the end of the season, although no official decision has been made.

OPINION

This probably won’t come as too much of a surprise for Hammers fans, who will have known for some time that Carroll was playing on borrowed time. There was once a time when his injuries were tolerated because you knew that when he was in the side he could cause the kind of havoc that few players in the Premier League can with his size and brutish physicality. Now, however, when he plays, he is usually so ineffective that Manuel Pellegrini might as well put a wardrobe up front. Carroll has been so unfortunate with injuries during the course of his career, and you have to feel heartily sorry for him, but this has been coming for a while, and supporters won’t lose too much sleep over his departure. Who would take a 30-year-old with his shockingly long injury record, however, especially on his sizeable wages, remains to be seen.
