West Ham United are likely to target Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Hammers, alongside Premier League rivals Watford, are likely to be amongst the clubs interested in signing the Wales international once the transfer window opens for business in a few months’ time.

The report adds that the Potters are expecting a few of their players to leave the club this summer, and the former Liverpool player is someone that the Irons are likely to target.

OPINION

Joe Allen may be a player who is full of experience having played for the likes of league giants Liverpool and Swansea in the past, but he is someone that the club should really avoid this summer. He has demonstrated that he is not at the level required for the Premier League, so why should the Irons be wasting their time on a top-flight has been? There is nothing particularly special about Allen in the slightest, and he will not offer the team anything new to what they already have. With Declan Rice currently bossing it in the midfield alongside Mark Noble, just where would Allen fit in if he ever made the move? He would be someone who would sit on the bench for the majority of the time, so this would just be a waste of time. West Ham after better off targeting someone else other than Allen, as he is not what they really need.
