West Ham United’s midfield is no doubt one of the worst hit in terms of injuries this season, with Andriy Yarmolenko and Jack Wilshere amongst the high profile casualties.

With central midfielder Carlos Sanchez also on the sidelines, it would make complete sense for the Hammers to recruit one in the summer. However, just who would fit the criteria?

That player is definitely Watford star Abdoulaye Doucoure. According to the Daily Mail, the Irons were keen on him in the January transfer window, and he is one player that they must revisit in the summer.

The 26-year-old has been in dazzling form for the Hornets this season. His form no doubt caught the eye of many high-calibre clubs during his two seasons at Vicarage Road, and signing him would be an absolute masterstroke by Manuel Pellegrini.

The midfield destroyer is arguably one of the most in-form players outside of the Premier League top-six this term. He would bea shrewd addition to whatever club he may end up joining, but it must be West Ham that go back in for him.

If they did end up pouncing on him, then it is a no-brainer that the likes of Pedro Obiang would be fearing for their careers at the London Stadium. That would not matter to the manager, as Doucoure is a massive upgrade.

Many West Ham fans will surely be blowing bubbles if the club pulled off a swoop like this one. Their midfield would be instantly transformed, and it would give players like Mark Noble a break from playing week in, week out.

Could you imagine just how good the Hammers’ would be with the addition of Doucoure? Starring alongside the likes of Declan Rice, he would be virtually unplayable.

West Ham need to relight the spark for the midfielder, as he is just what they need.
