West Ham United’s firepower is seriously lacking at the moment. Javier Hernandez may have undergone a mini transformation in the last few weeks, but the cracks are really starting to show.

Marko Arnautovic is not the threatening player that he used to be – that is a fact – Lucas Perez is as useless as useless can be, while Andy Carroll’s contract expires in the summer – something that is actually a blessing for the Hammers.

This is why it makes complete sense for Manuel Pellegrini to recruit a new forward for next season – a forward who is actually reliable and does the job that they are paid to do.

Well, step forward Wout Weghorst, a player who the Hammers were interested in last summer according to Dutch outlet RTV Oost. He may have ended up moving to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, but they would be mad not to swoop for a striker with his type of figures.

The Irons were interested in the 26-year-old the summer after he had scored an impressive 27 goals in 37 games for Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar. This season, he has scored 13 goals in 28 appearances – a more than decent return rather good considering how tough the Bundesliga can be.

There is no reason why the Irons cannot come swooping for this attacking talent, as he is exactly what they need after a miserable season in their attack. He would transform them into the blink of an eye if he joined. Just imagine how his goal tally could rise with the likes of Felipe Anderson providing him service.

It is clear that he is able to replicate his eye for goal when moving division, so he should fit into the Premier League without any problems whatsoever. Arnautovic would soon be cast aside if the attacker took his place, that is for sure.

Fireworks would erupt if the club signed Weghorst, so West Ham must reignite their interest in him this summer.
