Well, what a Saturday it was for West Ham – and definitely not in a good way.

They lost 2-0 to a side who are really struggling in the Premier League at the moment in the shape of Cardiff, undoing all of the hard work that they had achieved in the last few weeks.

This is a shame, but what is one man’s loss is another man’s gain – and that is certainly the case with Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell.

The two defenders have been battling it out for the left-back spot all season, with Cresswell finally proving victorious in their battle at this stage of the campaign.

However, could that all be about to change after Cresswell’s horror show on Saturday? The 29-year-old was at fault for Junior Hoilett’s opener after losing the attacker in the 18 yard box. In all honesty, it was a bit of a nothing performance from him, as he was pretty much invisible in the second half.

In fact, you would have hardly realised he was on the pitch until the final whistle.

That is a real shame, as Cresswell had pretty much established himself as Manuel Pellegrini’s first choice for the role – but now Masuaku will be licking his lips about the prospect of forcing his way into the manager’s plans once again after his horror show.

It was possibly the worst outing we have seen from Cresswell in a West Ham shirt, and that is really saying something after his woeful start to the season.

Either way, Masuaku will be rubbing his hands together at the prospect of usurping Cresswell from the left-back spot – and if the 25-year-old impresses, then it is his chance to lose.
