Dean Ashton couldn’t find the words to defend West Ham after Sam Matterface tore into the Hammers for their display against Everton.

The talkSPORT host took to his personal Twitter account in order to claim that the Hammers’ performance in the 2-0 loss to Everton may personally be the worst home performance he has witnessed this season.

This prompted Ashton to respond by sending Matterface an all-emoji message, via his personal account, which saw him use the shock face emoji and the emoji that represents facepalming.

“Wow..that might the worst home performance I’ve personally witnessed in the #PL this season,” tweeted the presenter.

“Everton afforded far too much space first half and West Ham with minimal thrust in the second when chasing the game.”

OPINION

Can anyone defend West Ham’s display against Everton? Surely not. The Hammers were terrible from start to finish against the Toffees and they should be counting their lucky stars that they didn’t end up losing by a bigger margin. However while Ashton doesn’t jump to hisĀ  former side’s defence over Matterface’s claim, as the facepalm emoji implies he agrees somewhat, the talkSPORT’s host claim should be contested. Fulham as well as Huddersfield Town have definitely put in worst displays at home this season, so you have to question whether Matterface has gone a little over-the-top with his criticism. Then again perhaps he hasn’t seen either of those two teams play this season. Aside from debating whether the talkSPORT host’s claim was warranted, Hammers fans will no doubt be hoping their side instantly respond. This is because Manuel Pellegrini’s team should be aiming to finish as high as possible, but more performances like the ones against Everton will only see the team slump to a bottom-half finish.
