COMMENTARY

West Ham purchased Jordan Hugill from Preston North End and then hardly utilised him, so it was no surprised when he was loaned out to Middlesbrough in the summer. The 26-year-old was no doubt chomping at the bit to get his career back on track after a terrible brief spell at the London Stadium, but it simply hasn’t gone to plan. Hugill has only managed six goals in 30 league appearances and hasn’t looked like being the game changing forward, Boro fans would have wanted him to be. In fact after the Northern Echo reported that the Hammers had slapped a £10million price tag on the forward’s head as they wanted to recoup what they paid, loads of Boro fans didn’t hold back delivering their verdict on him. One claimed he was more suited to playing in the Northern League, while several wished for their side not attempt to sign him permanently which was very telling. Given this reaction from a large number of Boro’s fans you can’t help but feel sorry for Hugill as it’s hard to see anyone paying the Hammers £10million to take him; and that means he may be stuck at the London Stadium.
