West Ham are joined by Premier League rivals Manchester United in chasing the signing of Gremio winger Everton this summer, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian news outlet claim that the Hammers and Red Devils are both keen on the 23-year-old forward, with AC Milan and Roma also said to be in the hunt to snap up the three-cap Brazil international.

It is stated that the South American wide man has a £51.4million (€60million) release clause in his contract with the Brazilian side but that anywhere from £17.2million to £25.8million (€20-30million) could seal his capture.

Opinion

West Ham’s attackers are all facing an uncertain future in east London and so it should not come as much of a surprise to hear that the Hammers are keen on snapping up some fresh talent to bolster their forward line. Everton might be a natural winger but he definitely knows where the back of the net is, having scored 16 goals in 40 appearances for his club last season which came to an end in December. There is absolutely no guaranteeing that a signing from Brazil will be able to replicate that sort of form in the Premier League but the fact he has been picking up caps for his country of late suggests he his destined for bigger and brighter things than playing in his home country’s top flight. Could he do a job for West Ham up front rather than out wide? Marko Arnautovic was taken from the wings and turned into a mean centre forward, so maybe the same could apply to the Brazilian were he to make the switch to the English capital.
