Things didn’t go too well for Memphis Depay during his first spell in England.

The Dutch international arrived with a bucketload of potential and a burgeoning reputation, but never endeared himself to the Manchester United faithful after a period of fluctuating form and frustrating performances.

As such, it wasn’t too much of a surprise when the winger was quickly offloaded to Lyon back in 2017, but since then he has hit a rich vein of form that has arguably made him one of the most exciting prospects in Europe.

That tag was reinforced with a masterful performance in the Netherlands 4-0 win over Belarus on Thursday night, as the 25-year-old scored or assisted all four goals.

The Dutchman really seems to be ready for the next big move in his career, and West Ham could take their game to the next level with a swoop for his services.

Despite him signing a new contract after his Chinese transfer debacle, there remains an air of uncertainty surrounding Marko Arnautovic’s future at the club, and should the Austrian leave in the summer, who better to replace him than Depay?

The two have obvious similarities in their game – the creative flair, the willingness to wander and cause havoc wherever they pop up – and if Arnautovic does move on, their would be a fair wedge of cash sitting in the transfer kitty just waiting to be spent on a top level replacement.

Depay is clearly a player who believes in his own abilities, and now that he older, wiser, and finally reaching his true potential, surely he could be tempted by a chance at Premier League redemption.
