West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang looks set for a summer exit after four years at the club, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that the 26-year-old Equitorial Guinea international will likely be permitted to leave the Hammers in a few months time, despite having a contract until 2022.

The writing appears to be on the wall for the player after being repeatedly left out of the starting line up by manager Manuel Pellegrini in recent months.

The former Sampdoria man has made 111 appearances over his time with the East London outfit, but has been linked with moves to his old club and Fiorentina in recent times. Football London’s report also mentions nine other players who could depart the London Stadium in a potential summer exodus.

OPINION

This is a slightly strange one given that the Hammers are not overindulged with central midfield talent at this moment in time. Obiang has been hugely inconsistent throughout his time with West Ham, but he remains a solid Premier League performer who can come in and do a job when required. If Pellegrini is able to bring in some more central midfielders then this potential sale wouldn’t be much of a problem, but as it is it seems like a strange time to be getting out of the Obiang business. To be fair, the team have coped fine without the Spaniard recently, but whether selling Obiang is a good idea all depends on whether the club brings more midfielders in to replace him. It’s no surprise to see so many players linked with a West Ham exit this summer considering how bloated the first team squad is. There are plenty of players who appear to have no future in East London, but Obiang seems like one of the more bizarre sales.
