Michael Owen has predicted that West Ham United will do the double over Everton when the two sides face each other at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The Hammers come off the back of an impressive 4-3 win over Huddersfield before the international break, while Everton secured a surprise 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The former Liverpool forward pointed out that the Hammers had not won four successive home league games since 2002, but he has backed them to get a second win over Everton this season, something which they have not done since the 1972/73 campaign.

“West Ham are unbeaten in their last six home league games and have won their last three. You must go back to May 2002 – under Glenn Roeder – for the last time the Hammers won four successive home league games in top-flight football,” he said in his BetVictor blog.

“Everton came good in the second half against Chelsea last time, but they have a moderate recent record in London – P10 D3 L7 – and I expect Manuel Pellegrini’s side to keep the points and do the double over the Blues for the first time since the 1972/73 season.”

OPINION

West Ham are on a pretty decent run at the moment, but to be honest, this is a hard one to predict. Everton are no doubt going to be confident after beating Chelsea, and they are by no means an easy push over. The Hammers are at home though, which does give them a distinct advantage over the Toffees. However, if we have learnt one thing about West Ham this season, it is that they can be very unpredictable. Many would have thought that they would have brushed aside Premier League strugglers Huddersfield with ease – but look what happened there. They were on the brink of a draw before Javier Hernandez snatched the winner in stoppage time. This will be a tough task for West Ham on Saturday, and if Richarlison plays anything like he did in Everton’s clash against Chelsea a couple of weeks ago, then Pellegrini has a big ask on his hands.
