West Ham United summer transfer target Guillermo Maripan would likely be available for between £10-12million, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that the Hammers are very keen on the Chile international and that he wouldn’t cost a particularly outlandish sum.

The 24-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, but has attracted Manuel Pellegrini’s attention after an impressive campaign with Spanish side Alaves.

Centre back is said to be an area that Pellegrini is looking to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window.

OPINION

This is a signing that would make sense for West Ham given that Pellegrini is thought to be planning a reshuffle at centre back this summer. Obviously he’s not been convinced by his options behind Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop and, really, the Chilean doesn’t really have anyone other than Angelo Ogbonna who could come in and operate at centre back. You don’t want to confuse Declan Rice’s progress by shifting him to a different position, meaning that Pellegrini doesn’t have too many players to choose from at centre back. Winston Reid is still at the club, of course, but he’s had such severe injury problems that you doubt whether he’ll return as the same player. So the Hammers boss does need to bring in someone else at the heart of the defence, and Maripan appears to be that man. He has done very well in La Liga this campaign and is still young enough to improve in the coming years. £10-12million isn’t much for a top class player in this day and age, so this one seems to be a no brainer.
