West Ham United are interested in making a summer move for Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the East London outfit do hold an interest in the 6ft 2in Serbian [Source: Transfermarkt], who has impressed greatly this season for a Fulham side who appeared doomed to relegation.

With West Ham attackers Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll said to be on their way out of the London Stadium this summer, a move for Mitrovic would make sense for the club.

However, Fulham will likely demand an outlandish fee for the 24-year-old after he bagged 10 goals and two assists in a doomed campaign for the Cottagers.

OPINION

This makes a lot of sense for West Ham. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been a bit light on cutting edge this term, particularly since January’s Marko Arnautovic fiasco. Javier Hernandez has impressed in fits and starts, but neither Perez nor Carroll have done anything to make an impression this season. It’s clear, then, that the club are in need of a new recruit up top, and Mitrovic would be an outstanding addition. The problem will be signing him. There will be plenty of clubs interested in the burly Serbian international, meaning that his price tag will rise along with his agent’s demands. That could make things difficult, although the Hammers do appear to have a fair bit of cash these days. From a purely footballing perspective, though, Mitrovic would be a phenomenal addition. He has shown this season that he can cut it in the top flight, even with a bad team. Imagine what he could do with the likes of Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and Samir Nasri creating chances for him.
