West Ham United would have to receive an offer of around £100million for them to consider selling starlet Declan Rice, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that while the club will officially tell interested parties that the 20-year-old isn’t for sale at any amount, they accept that every player has his price.

As such, it is thought that it would currently take a gargantuan bid of £100million or more for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to consider selling their prized asset.

It remains to be seen whether that would be enough to scare off any potential bidders, but it would at least ensure that Pellegrini would receive the funds necessary to attempt to replace the youngster.

OPINION

This is interesting, isn’t it? Obviously the official line remains that Rice isn’t for sale at any price, but that’s just not realistic for a club like West Ham. Eventually he will leave the London Stadium, that goes without saying, so the big thing for West Ham is getting as much as they possibly can for him. £100million sounds like a pretty decent amount, doesn’t it? He is a phenomenal talent, clearly, and is likely headed to the very top. It would be unfair for the Hammers to force him into staying at the club long term, and they likely couldn’t anyway. It makes sense, then, for them to come up with a price that they would deem acceptable for the Englishman. Considering his ability and his youth, coupled with the general insanity of today’s transfer market, £100million doesn’t seem like the most ridiculous sum ever. As mentioned, that would give Pellegrini the resources to reshape his squads sans Rice. All in all, that doesn’t sound like such a bad deal.
