West Ham United left back Aaron Cresswell is a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Cardiff City after suffering a clash of heads against Newcastle United, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that the Hammers first team star, who was substituted after half an hour against the Magpies, was brought off as a precaution after a clash of heads with Javier Manquillo.

That knock has seemingly put his status for the trip to the Welsh capital in doubt, in what is the latest in a long line of injury concerns that have plagued manager Manuel Pellegrini this season.

However, Cresswell is the only fresh worry to emerge from the victory over Rafael Benitez’s side.

OPINION

This is a real blow to West Ham, make no mistake about it. Cresswell has nailed down the starting left back spot in recent months having won his battle with Arthur Masuaku at the position. He has been one of the team’s most improved players and is undoubtedly one of the first names on the team sheet for Pellegrini at the moment. However, you always have to be careful with head injuries. It’s important that full tests and carried out and that players don’t return to action still suffering the effects of a concussion or some other head-related injury. It makes sense, then, that Cresswell is a doubt against Cardiff after his clash with Manquillo. It was a hefty collision and both men required treatment at the London Stadium. The Hammers star appears to have come off worse, though. If he only winds up missing one game it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, and there are worse matches to miss than a trip to Cardiff.
