West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian looks set to leave the London Stadium in the summer, with his successor already in place, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the 32-year-old, who has amassed 150 appearances for the club [Source: Transfermarkt], is likely to depart when his contract expires in a few months time.

The Spaniard has lost his first choice status to summer signing Lukasz Fabianski this season, and the Poland international’s imperious form surely means there is no way back for him.

Claret & Hugh’s report states that young shot stopper Nathan Trott is being groomed for Adrian’s current role as Fabianski’s back up. The 20-year-old is seen by the club as the future at the position, but may be loaned out for a year next season before serving as number two.

OPINION

Adrian’s departure makes sense considering his sizeable fall from grace this campaign. He’s been a loyal servant to the Hammers and was a fine Premier League starter for a few years, but he’s just not at the level of Fabianski. He deserves to play first team football and that’s not going to happen for him in East London, and so it’s best for all concerned if he packs his bags this summer. The good news is that the club seemingly have his replacement already lined up. Trott is highly regarded within the academy and is clearly viewed as somebody with a huge future. Manuel Pellegrini has shown his willingness to promote youth players when he feels they are good enough, so it’s unlikely that Trott will have to wait too long before getting his chance. Having said that, a loan spell, as suggested, could be just what the young man needs to get him ready for the West Ham first team.
