Italian outfit Fiorentina will be required to spend around £9million to permanently sign on loan West Ham United midfielder Edmilson Fernandes, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that there is the option for the Serie A side to make the 22-year-old’s loan permanent, with the player having impressed greatly this season.

The Switzerland international has scored twice and assisted twice in 27 appearances during a productive spell with Stefano Piolo’s team this campaign.

OPINION

It’s hard to know what to think about Fernandes, really. This is a player who has made 48 appearances for the Hammers but appears to have made next to no impression on the club’s supporters. He has done really well this term, though, and so you wonder now whether it’s worth the club being a bit more patient with him and keeping him around for a bit longer. £9million isn’t much for a talented, young midfielder in today’s market and so it could be worth West Ham keeping Fernandes around for a bit longer. Either they’ll have another talented central midfielder for Manuel Pellegrini to select or they’ll be able to negotiate a larger fee for his permanent sale. The spanner potentially in the works, though, is that Fernandes would surely love to stay in Italy. He has impressed hugely at the Artemio Franchi. Whatever happens it appears that he has a big future moving forward, be that at the London Stadium or somewhere else.
