West Ham United are interested in signing Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to De Telegraaf.

The Dutch newspaper reports on their website that the Hammers are one of four clubs interested in the services of the 22-year-old, with the likes of Barcelona, Tottenham and Arsenal also keen on signing the shot-stopper.

However, the report adds that the Eredivisie side will only consider selling the 6ft 4in [Transfermarkt] colossus if they receive an offer of over £25.6million (30 million euros) – but it also states that the club’s football director Marc Overmars has deemed Onana not for sale.

OPINION

Many West Ham fans will no doubt be rather puzzled why the club has been linked to the services of another goalkeeper. With Lukasz Fabianski no doubt one of the club’s best players at the moment, they will certainly question why their club is interested in bringing another one to the London Stadium. However, if they are looking at Onana, then it is for good reason. At 33-years-old, Fabianski is not going to stay with the Irons forever, so it is wise that they are looking towards the future. Potentially signing the young stopper does not mean that the Pole will be ousted from the number one spot, it just means that West Ham are preparing for the long-term. With the likes of Barcelona interested in him, it is clear that Onana is a talented player in demand. However, the report states that he is not for sale, and if he is, the Champions League last-16 side will only consider offers of over £25.6 million. This makes signing him rather unlikely, but watch this space.
