West Ham should strengthen their midfield options with January loan move for Manchester United youngster Scott McTominay.

The Scottish international has struggled for game time since new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer joined the Reds, and could be allowed to leave the club on loan this January, according to Sky Sports News (16.38).

The 22-year-old made his breakthrough under Jose Mourinho last season, but has featured just eight times this campaign, and just twice since Solskjaer took the reigns.

At 6’4″ [Transfermarkt], McTominay is a commanding figure with the raw physicality needed to dominate the middle of the park, and could be a really savvy short term addition for Manuel Pellegrini’s Hammers as they push for a European spot.

The Irons have struggled with injuries in the centre of midfield this campaign and lack a player of McTominay’s domineering style.

With the battle for seventh looking as if it could come down to the wire, Pellegrini will be fully aware of the importance of adding depth to a squad that is already brimming with quality, as an intense fixture list puts pressure on aching bodies.

McTominay has proven that he has what it takes to be a top performer at this level, but he needs time and a bit of trust in a system that suits him – all things he would get at the London Stadium.
