It is safe to say that West Ham United have been rather unlucky when it has come to injuries to their midfielders this season.

Jack Wilshere has been on the sidelines for a while now and Andriy Yarmolenko and Carlos Sanchez are ruled out for the rest of the season – so Manuel Pellegrini has not had the best time of it in that department.

This is why it does not come as a surprise that the Hammers are in the hunt for 6ft 2in Italy and Inter Milan midfielder Roberto Gagliardini according to Inter Live.

Everton also keen on the 24-year-old, who is expected to cost £21.9 million.

However, it is the Irons who must win the race for Gagliardini this month, as he would be a fantastic addition to what is a team jam packed full of talented midfielders.

With the likes of Declan Rice and Mark Noble on the books, many fans would have thought that signing a midfielder was not really necessary in this window.

Nevertheless, the form of Pedro Obiang has left a lot to be desired, and Pellegrini cannot rely on him as cover if he has been rather woeful lately.

He is a player who blows hot and cold, and the manager just cannot trust him to do the job he is required to do.

Gagliardini would be the perfect replacement for Obiang, as having established himself on the fringes of the Inter first team – he has made 11 appearances in total so far this season – he has shown the quality that would make Pellegrini not think twice about binning Obiang.

Yes, admittedly he is not proven in a league like the Premier League, but playing alongside the likes of Rice and Noble will soon help him unleash the talent that caught the eye of the Irons in the first place.

Pellegrini must ensure that West Ham win the race for the ace’s signature this month, as he is just the player who will get the fans blowing bubbles once again.
