A little attacking spark never hurt anyone, and if West Ham United want to fulfil their obvious ambitions of competing at the top end of the Premier League table then they need to start adding world class talent at every opportunity.

The Hammers should, then, be looking to join top flight rivals Everton in the race for out of favour Barcelona winger Malcom.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported on Monday that the Toffees, along with Inter Milan and Lazio, are interested in the Brazilian.

Why shouldn’t West Ham enter the picture? Manuel Pellegrini’s side are just as ambitious as Everton and likely have the same sort of resources. The two teams share a similar aim of breaking through the glass ceiling into the top six, and Malcom could help them achieve that.

It’s imperative, then, that the Hammers go in for him. They have in the past attracted top class talent like Dimitri Payet, while they’re potentially nurturing one now in Felipe Anderson.

They need to add players of similar quality around Anderson, and having Malcom on one side and the former Lazio man on the other would be frightening for opposition defences.

Mundo Deportivo’s report states that Barca manager Ernesto Valverde is open to offers for the 21-year-old, mere months after signing him from Bordeaux for £36.5million, as per The Guardian.

He’s someone who is available and who would instantly improve this West Ham team – what’s not to love? Everton are the Hammers’ direct rivals in the table and they can’t be allowed to steal a march on a player of Malcom’s quality.

It’s not gone well for the youngster at the Nou Camp this season, that’s for sure. But, prior to that, he had been tearing up Ligue 1 for years. That talent doesn’t suddenly go away, but his disappointing tenure with Barcelona has likely made him accessible to teams of West Ham’s stature.

The Hammers need to take a chance and enter the Malcom race. A move for the Brazilian could see the club secure their ticket to the big time.
