La Liga side Real Betis are interested in signing West Ham United attacker Lucas Perez this month, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that Quique Setien’s side are keen on the former Arsenal frontman, who has failed to secure a first team spot at the London Stadium since his switch from the Gunners last summer.

Betis are said to be interested in a loan swoop for the 30-year-old, however, the Hammers would prefer a permanent deal and may hold onto the striker until the end of the season as a consequence.

The club are prepared to let Perez depart just six months after joining, though, if they receive an appropriate offer for him. He has scored four goals in 13 appearances since joining the East London club.

OPINION

It seems a bit bizarre that Manuel Pellegrini would consider giving up on Perez mere months after signing him. After all, he hasn’t been that bad so far this campaign. He hasn’t truly broken into the team, it’s true, but he’s done OK with the little opportunities he has been given. This is a player who the Chilean was thought to be keen to sign in the summer, and now he’s sick of him already? For Perez, though, a return to Spain could be what’s needed to resuscitate his crashing career. For whatever reason he’s not quite been able to cut it in English football. He’s obviously got a bit of talent, and his record at Deportivo prior to signing for Arsenal was excellent, but it’s just not happened for him. You do feel like West Ham should give him more time before pulling the plug, but this could end up working well for him despite that.
