West Ham mulling Faniyan capture

|

West Ham United are considering a move for free agent Ayomide Faniyan, according to All Nigeria Soccer

The Nigerian football site report that the 18-year-old has been training with the Hammers for more than eight weeks now in an attempt to earn a deal after leaving Reading.

All Nigeria Soccer claim that Hammers bosses are still undecided on whether to hand the youngster a contract, with there said to be concerns about Faniyan potentially blocking the development of 15-year-old starlet Amadou Diallo.

OPINION

This would be an interesting move from West Ham, who have obviously been taking a close look at Faniyan over the past two months. The 18-year-old is obviously a big talent, but whether the club believe he has what it takes to become a Premier League player is yet to be seen. Their concerns surrounding 15-year-old sensation Diallo are totally understandable as well, with the club having extremely high hopes for the youngster. Making sure that such a talent has a clear pathway of development is key, and bringing in an older player in his position will not help. However, if they believe that Faniyan has the talent to become a top-flight star, then it is worth the risk. The two players could end up complimenting each other nicely, and that would be a huge bonus for the Irons. After eight weeks of training a decision is surely now close on Faniyan, and we should expect to hear more news on the matter soon.
