West Ham United are in talks with Spanish side Celta Vigo for midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, as well as team mate Maxi Gomez, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet claims that the Hammers, who have widely been reported to be chasing Gomez, are also looking to seal a deal for Slovakian international Lobotka.

The 24-year-old is of interest to Premier League sides Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth and Leicester City, but it is thought that the player is keen on a move to the London Stadium.

A loan deal for Lobotka is a possibility, unlike with Gomez, as Manuel Pellegrini looks to add some more talent in the centre of the pitch this month.

OPINION

This is an interesting morsel of information. Lobotka is someone that is clearly on the radar of several Premier League sides, and there’s no surprise in that. He is an excellent talent, a combative midfielder, and at 24 years of age he still has his best years ahead of him. With all the problems that the Hammers have had in central midfield this season it makes perfect sense for them to be pursuing someone like Lobotka. He has the quality and the industriousness that Pellegrini’s side require alongside Declan Rice in central midfield. It’s interesting, too, that a loan swoop is thought to be a possibility here. That would be ideal for the Hammers, particularly if an option to buy is included. That would ensure that they don’t have to spend money this month, coming on the back of a summer of heavy spending, something that is sure to appeal to the club’s board. If the player wants to move, as well, then there’s seemingly nothing in the way of this one being completed.
