Bundesliga side Schalke have made an offer to sign West Ham United striker Lucas Perez, according to BBC Sport.

The well-known sports outlet reports on their website that the Hammers have received an offer from Champions League side to take the 30-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season, with the choice to buy the forward when his spell ends.

Perez – who was signed in the summer from Arsenal for £4 million – has made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Irons this term, scoring five goals in the process.

OPINION

This is an offer that West Ham should snap Schalke’s arm off for. Perez – who is on £80,000-a-week [Spotrac] – has been far from prolific since his arrival, and it is safe to say that he certainly has not made that he and the club were hoping he would make. He was not given the chance at Arsenal to show his worth, but he has not really had that opportunity with the Hammers either. Nine of his appearances this season have come from the bench, which speaks volumes about which strikers Manuel Pellegrini prefers. Letting him leave on the loan is the best decision the club could make for Perez, as it would give him the first team chances that he has obviously been craving. The attacker has shown glimmers of quality this term, but they do not outweigh the mistakes he has made in the slightest. He needs a fresh start this season, and moving to Schalke would be the perfect way to do that – there is no doubt about it, West Ham need to accept this offer.
