West Ham United have seen an approach rejected for Bayern Munich striker Sandro Wagner, according to Bild

The German newspaper report that the Hammers are one of several sides which made an enquiry for the 31-year-old, who has struggled for game time at the Allianz Arena this season.

Bild claim that Wagner is now a target for Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda, who are ready to offer him a lucrative two-year deal.

OPINION

This would have been a very interesting move for West Ham if they managed to pull it off, with Wagner likely to cause a few problems for many Premier League defences. The big Germany international puts himself about well, and while he is not the most mobile, he knows where the goal is. Signing such a player would have been a good move for the Hammers this month, especially with both Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez reportedly seeking a move away from the London Stadium. There would however be questions over the similarities between Andy Carroll and Wagner, with both offering similar things to manager Manuel Pellegrini. Either way, the move is obviously not happening, with a lucrative switch to China seemingly on the cards for the 31-year-old. Pellegrini will have to make do with his current options up front for now, with a shake-up likely to happen in the summer involving exits for Hernandez, Perez and Marko Arnautovic.
