West Ham United are yet to receive any approach from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for striker Andy Carroll, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that there have been no discussions as of yet between the two teams, despite a report linking Mauricio Pochettino’s side with a move for the Englishman.

The Sun claimed on Monday that Spurs were considering a £2million move for Carroll in an attempt to solve their injury issues at the sharp end of the pitch.

However, it’s thought that no move has yet materialised, with a club source confirming to Claret & Hugh that no approach has yet been received by West Ham.

OPINION

This is an interesting update. The Sun’s report did only say that Tottenham were considering Carroll, so it isn’t all that surprising that they have yet to make an official bid for him. Given Daniel Levy’s reluctance to spend money of late it’s perhaps understandable that it’s taking a while before any cash is put on the table. The move is one that if it comes to fruition would be excellent business for West Ham. The player is out of contract in the summer and clearly doesn’t fit with Manuel Pellegrini’s style of football. So considering all that, it would be tremendous for the club to get £2million for him when they risk him walking away for nothing in the summer. And if Spurs think that he’s the solution to their problems then God bless them. This is a strange story and so it’s no surprise that nothing has happened as of yet, however, movements could still be made. Tottenham are desperate for striking reinforcements at the moment, that’s for sure.
