Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has praised West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice for his performance in the 1-0 win against Arsenal on Saturday.
The 19-year-old produced a wonderful display as Manuel Pellegrini’s side overcame the Gunners at the London Stadium, scoring the game’s only goal just after half time.
Lineker was certainly impressed by the Hammers youngster: “Good finish from Declan Rice,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
“Yet another fabulous young English prospect,” he finished.

Lineker is absolutely spot on with his assessment of Rice, here. The youngster was phenomenal against Arsenal, bossing the midfield and scoring the game’s winning goal. You could see how much it meant for him and Rice is certainly West Ham through and through. As Lineker says, he is a fantastic young talent. He showed that once again on Saturday. There are a host of talented young English footballers coming through now, from Jadon Sancho and Joe Gomez to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden. It’s a very exciting time to be an English football fan – although you sense that Lineker might be taking a pop at Rice’s current dilemma over his international status. The teenager is unsure whether to declare for the Three Lions or the Republic of Ireland who he has already represented. So Lineker is poking the Irish bear, here, but he remains correct about how good the youngster is.
