Eredivisie side Heerenveen have launched a bid to sign West Ham defender Reece Oxford on loan, according to the Leeuwarder Courant

The local Dutch newspaper report that the club’s technical director Gerry Hamstra flew into London on Friday to try and negotiate a deal with the Hammers.

It has been reported elsewhere that Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt and Championship club Nottingham Forest are keen on an £8million permanent deal for the 6’3″ colossus [Transfermarkt].

OPINION

You cannot blame Heerenveen for trying their best to sign Oxford, but you would think their efforts will end up being in vain. Firstly, West Ham are keen to offload the youngster on a permanent deal, and with other clubs interested in such an arrangement there is no reason why they would agree to a loan instead. Secondly, there is little chance that Oxford himself would want to make such a move. Heerenveen may be in the top division in the Netherlands but they are not exactly a club of stature, and the starlet is known to have a rather high opinion of himself. A move to the Bundesliga looks the most likely at the moment, with Oxford having spent time at Borussia Monchengladbach last season, although a move down to the Championship is also very possible. Crazier things have happened in football, but Heerenveen should not get their hopes up of signing Oxford in the coming days.
