West Ham United have not received an offer from Eintracht Frankfurt for out of favour youngster Reece Oxford, despite reports to the contrary, according to Claret & Hugh.

The respected Hammers news source revealed on Monday that a club source has confirmed that the German side have not made a bid for the 20-year-old, but that there are Bundesliga sides sniffing around the player.

Sky Sports claimed on Sunday that Frankfurt and Nottingham Forest are in talks with the Hammers over a move for Oxford, with the German team prepared to pay £8million for the defender.

It now appears that that is not the case. However, Claret & Hugh’s report does state that the youngster has no way back at the London Stadium having fallen out of favour with successive managers.

OPINION

Well, it is a shame that the club have not received an offer for Oxford, really. He is someone that simply is not wanted by West Ham and is seemingly free to leave, so £8million would have been a nice little windfall for the club. However, it seems that the Irons will have to wait a bit longer to see the back of him. Oxford is not a bad player by any means and he still has huge potential, but there seems to be an attitude problem which is preventing him from progressing in East London. Successive managers have deemed him unworthy of their time and that is pretty damning for someone so young. He has experience in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach, and seemed to enjoy his time there, so a return to Germany would make sense. Hopefully the Bundesliga clubs that are sniffing around do make an official move, because it’s best for everyone that Oxford moves on at this point.
