West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has put his house up for sale as his Hammers contract continues to wind down, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 30-year-old, whose deal with the club runs out at the end of the season, has decided to sell his nine-bedroom mansion in Essex.

The news is a big indication that the former Liverpool man won’t be sticking around at the London Stadium, with a switch to Major League Soccer thought of as a major possibility.

The Hammers have seemingly decided to continue with Carroll until the end of the season, but the player’s decision to put his house up for sale indicates his confidence at the prospect of receiving a new contract.

OPINION

This is an interesting development. It appears that Carroll isn’t expecting to be offered a new deal in East London – or perhaps he won’t accept if one was offered. Maybe that’s reading too much into things. He might just be sick of his enormous mansion and has decided to downsize… The likelihood is, though, that he realises his time at West Ham is coming to an end and he wants to be ready for whatever comes next. At 30 years of age he still has many years ahead of him, but this is also the time when teams from China and the United States start looking at players as possible big-money marquee signings for their leagues. That might very well be the point that Carroll is at, and why wouldn’t he take the money on offer in one of those countries? The likelihood of him signing for a top side or getting back into the England squad looks pretty slim, so he might as well enjoy the money and lifestyle in America or somewhere else.
