West Ham United defender Reece Oxford could make the switch to Bundesliga side Augsburg, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper’s live blog [31/01] reports that the German club are in the hunt for the 20-year-old’s services ahead of the deadline today, with the youngster eager to make a move in order to get more first team opportunities.

The £20,000-a-week [Spotrac] enforcer previously had an offer from Dutch club Heerenveen turned down, with Nottingham Forest also registering some interest.

OPINION

Reece Oxford no doubt thought his chances of leaving the club were all but over after the club rejected Heerenveen’s offer to sign him. He is desperate to leave the club in a bid for more first team opportunities, and it remains to he seen why the Hammers are holding such a firm stance on his future. He clearly is not in Manuel Pellegrini’s first team plans at the moment, so keeping hold of him is actually rather unfair if he is not going to be played. All Oxford wants is to play first team football regularly, and he is not even able to do that by the looks of it. However, it remains to be seen what will happen with this interest from Augsburg. Will the Irons finally give in and let Oxford leave? Or will they still hold a firm stance and put their foot down? Playing in Germany is the best thing he could do at this stage in his career, so West Ham must stop playing hard ball and do what is right.
