Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham United certainly wasn’t Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka’s finest day at the office, was it? The Switzerland international looked poor from start to finish and was eventually substituted by manager Unai Emery, after which the Gunners looked noticeably improved. The former Borussia Monchengladbach man has actually had a pretty good season but he was certainly below par at the London Stadium. He just couldn’t get to grips with the game and wasn’t able to stem the tide of West Ham positivity in the first half. The Hammers midfield, led by the ferocious Declan Rice, simply bossed proceedings and Xhaka didn’t know what to do with the youngster. Emery’s side were out-thought and outfought by the hosts and Xhaka was one of those who suffered the most on Saturday. It’s rare to see the midfield general hooked by Emery, which says it all about how poorly he fared at the London Stadium.
