The injury suffered by West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic on Tuesday could force the club into a deadline-day scramble, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report in their live transfer blog [13:11] that the Austria international is set for a scan on his foot, with the injury thought to potentially be season-ending.

The Mail claim that the severity of the injury could end up forcing West Ham into a deadline day move as they look to find a replacement for their top scorer.

OPINION

The striker that has been most heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium this month is Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez. It has looked at points like the Hammers were set to sign the 22-year-old, but with the deadline fast approaching, such a deal now looks unlikely. The La Liga side are desperate to keep hold of the Uruguay international until the summer as they battle relegation, and a switch to the Premier League was always likely to have to involve a loan-back to Vigo. Should the Hammers be forced into the market tomorrow, then a deal for Gomez is therefore unlikely, and quite frankly they will struggle to sign anyone of note. Such a late move always brings a lot of issues, with clubs eager to secure huge fees while also not being keen to let players leave so late without time to sign a replacement. The likelihood unfortunately is that the Hammers will have to make do with what they have, and players like Andy Carroll, Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez will have to step up.
