West Ham may have defeated Southampton 2-1 on Thursday but some a lot of Hammers supporters decided Andy Carroll didn’t deserve much if any praise for his part in the victory. The forward replaced Grady Diangana in the 55th minute of the match and was actually lucky, just as one fan said, to not quickly exit the pitch after coming on. Carroll made a rather reckless tackle that on another day if the referee wasn’t still in the festive spirit would have got him instantly red carded. The only reason why some of the criticism for the 29-year-old below may be perceived as harsh as it’s clear he still isn’t back up to full fitness. Carroll has barely featured this season after an injury derailed his summer and caused him to miss the first part, so it’s no surprise that one fan cheekily compared the amount of rust he was showing to the amount of rust that was likely on the titanic. While some Hammers fans are urging Manuel Pellegrini not to play Carroll again, it’s too soon to write him off as he could get back up to speed and be useful.
