Stuart Pearce opted to comment on West Ham’s summer signing ahead of Fulham as his verdict on Ryan Fredericks’ start to the club was brutally worded.

The Hammers favourite simply said on the subject of the 26-year-old right-back that the defender was yet to get his career going.

“Fredericks has not got his career going,” said Pearce on talkSPORT (Saturday December 15, 17:27).

Given that Fredericks played no part against his former club on Saturday due to an injury, the right-back must be feeling rather hopeless about how he can turn his fortunes around at the London Stadium.

The right-back can’t exactly get his Hammers career going anytime soon as aside from being out injury until the new year (Source: BBC Sport), Pablo Zabaleta is continuing to knock it out the park.

The veteran right-back doesn’t show any signs of slowing up and even when Fredericks is fit, it is hard to see how he is going to be able to string enough games in a row to get the ball rolling.

Fredericks ahead of his injury made only six appearances across all competitions for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and in his Premier League outings, looked out of his depth when it came to his defensive duties.

While the 26-year-old won’t be worrying about his long-term future at the London Stadium, as he only joined in the summer and is contracted to stay until 2022, he must be feeling powerless over his immediate future.

Fredericks isn’t going to be able to change the likes of Pearce’s mind from the sidelines and if the Hammers sign a new right-back in January or the summer, then it wouldn’t surprise if Pellegrini opts to secure a loan move for the former Fulham defender.

Given that potential temporary exit probably won’t see him playing in the Premier League, which would allow him to improve, the defender must be struggling to know how his Hammers career will ever take off.
