Gary Lineker highlighted the performance of West Ham attacker Felipe Anderson in his side’s 3-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

The 58-year-old stated that the Hammers winger was becoming a regular feature on BBC One’s Match of the Day after scoring four goals in his last four league outings.

“Felipe Anderson is becoming a little bit of a feature on Match of the Day, that’s four goals in his last four games,” said Lineker after showing West Ham’s win over Newcastle on BBC’s Match of the Day (Saturday December 1st, 11:07pm).

BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas then proceeded to analysing Anderson’s performance on Saturday which led to Lineker making a cheeky claim that the Brazilian was a bargain.

“Looks a real bargain for £35million plus add ons that could rise to £42million,” said the Match of the Day host before moving away from the subject of Anderson.

OPINION

Lineker clearly has been impressed by Anderson, particularly as he shone bright against the Magpies, but couldn’t help but highlight his mammoth price. The Hammers signed the 25-year-old left-sided winger for a whopping £36million (BBC Sport) and his price could rise to £41.5million if certain terms are met. Given that the terms are likely performance related and Anderson is excelling at the London Stadium in the majority of outings, it’s like that he would have cost the Hammers north of £40million when all is said and done. While there have been times this season where the winger has made you want to tear your hair out as he submitted some questionable performances, generally he has looked the deal and worth such a heavy investment. Anderson will only continue to get better as he continues to adapt to the Premier League and learn from his experience. Also the fact the winger is only 25-years-old, suggests that his best years are still yet to come.
