West Ham United are still sweating over whether Jack Wilshere will be available for the clash against Fulham this weekend, according to a club insider.

exWHUemployee – a reliable source of news on the Hammers – revealed via the ‘West Ham Way’ podcast that the 26-year-old summer signing is “touch and go” for this fixture as he is still suffering with a problem.

The insider adds that there will be a “strong chance he will” be involved in the derby encounter but says it has not been confirmed by the club yet.

“Wilshere is still touch-and-go whether he’ll be fit for the game,” exWHUemployee said on the podcast [58:09].

“I think there’s a strong chance that he will be but it’s not been confirmed yet.”

OPINION

Jack Wilshere has been missing since West Ham’s clash with Wolves earlier this season, which is a rather long time to be on the sidelines. He has been terribly unlucky with the injuries that he has had and it is rather unfair that he has missed out on a number of chances with the first team. The midfielder will no doubt be vying for a starting XI spot if he is deemed fit enough to return, but he will face stern competition from his teammates who have excelled in his absence. Mark Noble has formed a decent partnership with Declan Rice and it would be a shame to suddenly break this up if Wilshere returns. However, it will be a major boost to Manuel Pellegrini if the former England international did return. The injury list has been piling up, especially in the midfield, so Wilshere coming back is just what is needed at the moment.
