West Ham United are debating a six-month contract offer to Samir Nasri that is worth £40,000-a-week, according to a club insider.

Claret and Hugh – a reliable source of news on the Hammers – have reported that is the sum that West Ham are prepared to pay Nasri, who has agreed the terms.

This is a huge difference to the £80,000 figure being reported by the Evening Standard, but it is claimed that Nasri is happy with the £40k-a-week figure.

Manuel Pellegrini is set to make a decision on whether to give the former Premier League ace a six month contract with the Irons in January, with a year option.

OPINION

£80,000-a-week for a player who is in his thirties, as well as coming back from a drugs ban, looked rather steep initially. However, a £40,000-a-week deal is far more acceptable for a player like Nasri at the moment. He is unlikely to be on top form for West Ham if he is offered the deal, as a long period of time out of action would no doubt have effects on his ability, so there would no doubt be an uproar from fans if he was to be paid such a wage. Yes, he was rather good for the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal previously and that should not be forgotten, so the new offer seems perfectly adequate. He still has the ability to make an impact at West Ham as he still has a lot more to give at his age, and if he impresses the likes of Pellegrini enough, there is a chance he will remain a player at West Ham beyond the six months that have been stated. However, it is important not to think too far ahead.
