West Ham have a strong interest in signing Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Hammers have discussed signing the 27-year-old powerhouse in next month’s transfer window after he emerged as a name on the list of players Spurs are plotting to get rid of in January.

The report adds that Wanyama is not willing to leave the club, despite the fact his knee injuries have hampered his progression within the first team.

His contract with the North London club will expire in 2021.

OPINION

It is a shame to see Victor Wanyama worm his way down the pecking order in recent times, as there is no doubting the talent he has to make it in a club’s first team. His knee injuries have been the bain of his short playing career at Tottenham, and if it were not for these setbacks, he would have been a lot more successful under Mauricio Pochettino. He may be a surprise name on the list of players Spurs are willing to get rid of, but that has not stopped West Ham discussing his potential signing. He would be a fantastic addition to the Hammers, and he would greatly improve the standards in their midfield following a few casualties. Other clubs will obviously be interested in swooping for the midfielder, but it must be West Ham who win the race for his services. His talent may be wasted at Spurs, but it certainly will not be at West Ham.
